In a significant shift for electricity consumers in Uttar Pradesh, the government has announced that users of prepaid smart meters will now have 15 days to recharge their accounts. This change aims to alleviate the urgency of immediate payments, allowing consumers to manage their electricity usage more effectively.
Previously, users faced the daunting challenge of losing power as soon as their prepaid balance ran out. This often led to frantic last-minute recharges and unexpected outages. Now, with the new system, consumers will receive monthly bills detailing their usage and will be granted a full two weeks to settle these charges.
Key changes in the billing process:
- Prepaid smart meters will function similarly to postpaid systems.
- Consumers will receive detailed bills every month, allowing for better financial planning.
- Outstanding bills up to April 30 can be paid in 10 installments.
The monthly bill will reflect electricity consumption from the first day to the last of each month and will be sent directly to consumers’ mobile phones via SMS or WhatsApp. This streamlined approach aims to enhance transparency and reduce confusion regarding billing.
