Ishan Kishan, the India wicketkeeper-batter, has ascended to the top position in the ICC Men’s T20I Batting Rankings, replacing his teammate Abhishek Sharma. This change follows India’s recent two-match T20 International series against Ireland, which India lost 2-0 in Belfast. Kishan’s rise marks the first time he has reached the summit of the T20I batting rankings.
Kishan becomes the fourth batter from India to achieve this feat, joining the ranks of Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, and Abhishek Sharma. His strong performances, including amassing 317 runs at a strike rate of almost 200 during the ICC T20 World Cup earlier this year, contributed to his career-best rating in the latest update.
The recent series in Ireland saw Sharma’s 11-month tenure as the top-ranked T20I batter come to an end. Meanwhile, several Ireland players also saw improvements in their rankings. Lorean Tucker, who scored a half-century in the first match against India, moved up four places to 77th. Harry Tector advanced one spot to 79th, and Ross Adair climbed six places to 84th. Seam bowler Matthew Humphreys, who secured four wickets in the series, moved up one position to 25th.
Changes in Test batting rankings
In the ICC Men’s Test Batting Rankings, Australia batter Travis Head has moved to the top spot. This marks the first time Head has achieved the number one ranking in his career. His ascent comes after the England duo of Joe Root and Harry Brook experienced drops in their rating points following their performances in the third Test against New Zealand.
Root and Brook lost 31 and 14 points respectively. Head is now on 853 rating points, just one point ahead of Brook. Root, who had started his 12th stint at the top of the rankings just a week prior, has now slipped to third place. Head is the first Australian to lead the Test Batting Rankings since Marnus Labuschagne held the top spot in June 2023.
The third Test between England and New Zealand also saw significant gains for several New Zealand players. Nottingham centurions Daryl Mitchell, Devon Conway, and Tom Latham all saw substantial improvements in their rankings after their team secured a 2-1 series victory in the ICC World Test Championship. Mitchell moved up five places to 11th, Conway advanced 14 places to 15th, and Latham climbed 12 places to 31st. England opener Ben Duckett’s first innings century helped him move from 17th to 14th place.
Bowling and all-rounder movements
In the ICC Men’s Test Bowling Rankings, Jasprit Bumrah has reclaimed the top spot. This occurred after Matt Henry lost one percent of his points tally due to missing the match through injury, conceding the top position back to Bumrah just one week after taking it. Nathan Smith, who was the leading wicket-taker in the series, moved up eight places to 38th, while William O’Rourke advanced five places to 27th.
England captain Ben Stokes concluded his Test career as the 34th-ranked bowler, having moved up three slots in the list. He also finished as the third-ranked all-rounder, climbing two slots. In the Test batting rankings, Stokes is positioned at 54th.
The latest weekly update also factored in performances from the first Test between the West Indies and Sri Lanka, and the one-off Test between Zimbabwe and Bangladesh. From Sri Lanka, Dhananjay de Silva moved up six places to 21st in the batting rankings. For the West Indies, Roston Chase climbed 14 places to 79th in batting. Among bowlers, the Windies pair of Shamar Joseph and Kemar Roach also made gains, with Joseph moving up nine places to 14th and Roach advancing four places to 17th. Zimbabwe’s Blessing Muzarabani gained six places among bowlers, reaching 19th.
