Trent Rockets secure top spot
The Trent Rockets women’s team has moved to the top of The Hundred table following their fourth consecutive victory. This win against Birmingham Phoenix at Trent Bridge has largely secured their place in the later stages of the tournament. The Rockets have now accumulated 16 points, positioning them well for qualification.
Sophia Dunkley played a significant role in the Rockets’ success, scoring 65 runs off 37 balls. This performance marked her third consecutive fifty, further extending her lead at the top of the run-scoring charts. Her efforts helped the Rockets successfully chase down a target of 123 runs with 16 balls remaining.
Despite losing key players Nat Sciver-Brunt for 24 runs and Ash Gardner to consecutive deliveries, the home side maintained their momentum. Lauren Filer dismissed Gardner, but the Rockets continued their strong batting display.
Phoenix’s challenging tournament continues
For Birmingham Phoenix, the match proved to be another setback, with this being their third defeat in five games. This result significantly impacts their hopes of advancing to the knockout stages of the competition. The Phoenix had only secured one win in their previous four matches, making this encounter a crucial one for their qualification aspirations.
Early in their innings, Davina Perrin, a 19-year-old talent, started energetically for Phoenix, contributing 18 runs off 13 balls. Contributions from Emma Lamb (45 runs off 34 balls) and Annerie Dercksen (21 runs off 16 balls) helped Phoenix reach a more competitive total. However, with Dunkley’s form, a target of 122 runs was ultimately not enough to secure a victory.
Other results and upcoming fixtures
In another match, Welsh Fire boosted their qualification chances with a three-wicket victory over Manchester Super Giants. This win was largely attributed to an impressive bowling performance, which restricted the home side to 85-9, with 14 runs coming from the last six balls of their 100-ball innings.
Orla Prendergast of Ireland, who replaced Sophie Devine, was a standout performer for Fire, claiming figures of 4-18, which are the best in the women’s competition this year. Despite the low target, Fire faced some challenges in their chase, losing seven wickets before securing the win with nine balls to spare. England spinner Sophie Ecclestone’s figures of 3-14 were not enough to turn the match in Manchester’s favour.
This result moves Welsh Fire to 12 points, placing them in fourth position, two points behind their opponents in the table, with two games remaining. Southern Brave and Trent Rockets are nearly guaranteed the top two spots in the table, securing their places in the knockout stages. This leaves only one spot available in the women’s eliminator.
Looking ahead, Thursday’s schedule for The Hundred will feature a single double-header. The London Spirit women’s team will host MI London starting at 3pm, followed by the men’s teams playing from 6:30pm. Both of these fixtures will be available to watch live.
