Four-time Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen has signed a new contract with Red Bull, committing to the team until the end of 2030. This extension aims to conclude speculation regarding the Dutch driver’s future, as he had been linked with potential moves to teams such as Mercedes or McLaren.
Verstappen’s previous contract included clauses that could have allowed him to leave at the conclusion of the current Formula 1 season. Despite a challenging start to the season for Red Bull under new regulations, Verstappen has chosen to remain with the team.

Max Verstappen expressed his satisfaction with the extension, stating, “We have the best people and I’m excited to keep working together with everyone to get back to the top again.” He added that the team feels like a second family and that continuing his journey with the same team throughout his career is special. Verstappen and Red Bull have together secured four Drivers’ World Championships and 71 Grand Prix victories.
The driver also praised team principal Laurent Mekies, noting his clear vision for the team. Mekies took over in July of the previous year. Verstappen mentioned that everyone at Red Bull’s base in Milton Keynes believes in the team’s direction and he looks forward to competing for more victories and championships.
This decision comes despite his race engineer, Gianpiero Lambiase, signing to join McLaren by 2028. While the new deal extends until 2030, it is understood that standard clauses in F1 driver contracts could still allow for an exit if performance expectations are not met.
