In a heartbreaking turn of events, Rahul Arunoday Banerjee, a prominent figure in the Bengali film and television industry, tragically drowned while filming for a series titled ‘Bhole Baba Paar Karega‘ off the coast of Talsari beach in Digha, Odisha. The incident occurred on the evening of his death, with reports indicating he was just 43 years old.
According to eyewitness accounts, the crew was shooting in knee-deep water when Rahul insisted on capturing an unscripted drone shot. Shortly after, he was reported to be drowning, prompting frantic rescue efforts from crew members who shouted and pulled him from the sea.
Despite their efforts, he was declared dead at the Digha hospital shortly after being brought in at 6:10 PM. The police have since registered a case of unnatural death and are investigating whether safety protocols were adhered to during the shoot.
Rahul’s career began with his debut in the 2009 film ‘Chirodini Tumi Je Amar‘, and he quickly became a beloved figure in the Bengali entertainment scene. His sudden passing has sent shockwaves through the industry, with many expressing their grief.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her condolences, stating, “This news has left me stunned, heartbroken, and grief-stricken. He was one of my favourite actors and a wonderful person.”

He stood up for me and voiced his opinion against internet hooliganism.” Meanwhile, crew member Diganta Bagchi described the frantic moments of the rescue, saying, “Crew was shouting, pulled him out of the sea.”
Rahul is survived by his wife and their 13-year-old son, who now face the unimaginable loss of a husband and father. The post-mortem is set to take place at the Contai Sub-divisional Hospital, but details remain unconfirmed regarding the exact circumstances of his drowning and the cause of death, pending the report.
