Bomb Threat Prompts Evacuation at Parul University
“So far, nothing suspicious has been found on the campus, but sanitising the entire campus will take a couple of hours,” stated a police officer involved in the response to a bomb threat that disrupted operations at Parul University on March 10, 2026.
The threat, communicated via an email, led to the immediate evacuation of the campus, which houses over 65,000 students enrolled in various courses. The university also postponed internal examinations scheduled for that day, with plans to reschedule them for the day following the conclusion of the current exam timetable.
Authorities from the Local Crime Branch, Special Operations Group, and Waghodia Police Station quickly mobilized to assess the situation. The Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad was deployed to search the premises thoroughly.
Despite the urgency of the situation, no explosives were discovered during the search operation, alleviating initial fears among students and staff. However, the incident caused significant traffic congestion in the Waghodia area as students and faculty evacuated the campus.
The bomb threat was part of a broader wave of similar emails sent to various government departments across the state, raising concerns about coordinated threats. Investigators from Ahmedabad’s cybercrime unit are currently tracing the origins of the emails, which were linked to hacked Outlook and Hotmail accounts.
This incident has highlighted vulnerabilities in email security and identity verification processes at the university, prompting calls for improved measures to protect against such threats in the future. The university community is left grappling with the implications of this event as investigations continue.
As the situation unfolds, further updates are anticipated from law enforcement and university officials regarding the ongoing investigation and any additional security measures that may be implemented.
