Directed by Kendhiran V., Dhurandhar 2 is set to hit theaters on March 19, 2026, and its OTT release is expected to follow approximately eight weeks later, potentially landing in late May or early July 2026. The film is a sequel to the successful Dhurandhar 1, which debuted on Netflix India on January 30, 2026, after its digital rights were sold for ₹85 crores.

The excitement surrounding Dhurandhar 2 is palpable, especially considering that Netflix had previously expressed interest in acquiring both installments of the franchise for a combined sum of ₹175 crores. However, the film’s rights ultimately went to Jio Studios, a decision that has sparked significant discussion within the industry. “The ₹150 crores received by Jio Studios is one of the biggest digital deals in the last few years,” remarked an industry insider.

As the OTT market continues to expand, JioHotstar is not alone in its pursuit of content. This week alone, the platform will see the launch of nine new films and web series, indicating a robust push to attract viewers. Among these is Vadh 2, a sequel to the 2022 hit Vadh, which is set to stream on Netflix starting April 3, 2026.

Industry veteran Ram Gopal Varma weighed in on the seismic shifts occurring in the film sector, stating, “Now that @AdityaDharFilms has EXPLODED an ATOMIC BOMB right under the film industry, what is shocking is the loud silence from the rest of the film industry.” His comments reflect a growing concern among filmmakers regarding the rapid evolution of content consumption and distribution.
