Indane Gas Booking Issues Cause Long Queues in Lucknow

Long Queues and Customer Frustration

Long queues have formed outside LPG distributing agencies in Lucknow as customers face significant challenges in booking Indane gas cylinders. The online gas booking system, which includes the IVRS helpline and other digital platforms, has been rendered inoperative due to a technical snag, leaving many consumers waiting for hours to secure their refills.

Reports indicate that some customers have resorted to purchasing cylinders on the black market, with one individual, Hasan Faisal, stating, “I bought a cylinder for Rs 1,050 while the regular rate is around Rs 900. In a crisis, we have to manage somehow because there is no supply.” This situation has raised concerns among residents about running out of gas before their refills arrive.

Technical Issues and Customer Complaints

The disruption in the booking system has been attributed to a shortage of commercial LPG cylinders, a situation exacerbated by geopolitical issues involving countries such as Iran, the US, and Israel. Despite claims from LPG companies that the booking system is functioning normally, many customers have reported difficulties in connecting to the Indian Oil Corporation booking helpline.

Additionally, the IVR system has a limitation that disconnects consumers attempting to book a second refill within 25 days of their previous booking, further complicating the process for those in need of gas. A customer named Madhu Menon expressed frustration, saying, “Got this message saying my last cylinder was delivered on 25 Feb and I can’t order again till late March. Except I haven’t ordered a new cylinder since early 2025! Then I discovered clear fraud!”

Concerns Over Fraud and Supply Disruptions

Menon’s experience highlights a growing concern among consumers regarding potential fraud in the distribution process, with claims that cylinders booked in their names are not being delivered. “Clearly there is some fraud going on where these cylinders are being delivered to someone else,” Menon added.

The Centre has revised the priority order for domestically produced natural gas in response to these supply disruptions, indicating a broader impact on the market. Meanwhile, consumers are encouraged to utilize alternative digital booking methods such as SMS booking, missed call services, or mobile applications to navigate the ongoing issues.

Looking Ahead

As the situation develops, many customers remain uncertain about when the technical issues will be resolved. Agency staff have stated, “There is a server issue right now. It should be resolved soon.” However, details remain unconfirmed regarding the timeline for restoring full functionality to the booking systems.
