The Bihar School Examination Board has unveiled the Class 12 results for 2026, marking a significant moment in the academic calendar. Previously, expectations were high as students anticipated results that would mirror or exceed last year’s impressive performance. However, the announcement revealed a different reality.
With an overall pass rate of 85.19%, this year’s results show a decline from last year’s 86.56%. This shift has raised eyebrows among educators and students alike, as the competition remains fierce in Bihar’s educational landscape.
In a decisive moment, Bihar Education Minister Sunil Kumar confirmed that girls outperformed boys, achieving a pass percentage of 86.23% compared to boys’ 84.09%. This trend highlights a growing academic strength among female students, with a total of 26 students topping the exam, including an impressive 19 girls.
The exams, conducted from February 2 to 13, 2026, saw over 13 lakh students participating, underscoring the scale of this educational endeavor. Students can check their results online or via SMS using their roll number, a convenience that has become standard in recent years.
Despite the overall decline in pass rates, the Bihar Board continues to be a frontrunner in declaring results promptly, maintaining its reputation among educational boards in India. The minimum requirement to pass each subject remains at 33%, a benchmark that many students strive to meet.
Experts suggest that the drop in overall performance could be attributed to various factors, including increased competition and the challenges posed by the pandemic in recent years. As Anand Kishor, a noted education analyst, points out, “The changing dynamics in student performance reflect broader societal shifts in education and gender roles.”
